How my kids teach me simplicity
It’s been raining non-stop for the last week, and I haven’t seen the sun in days. That must be why I’m reminiscing and dreaming about summer!
Last summer my parents rented an RV to go camping in San Antonio. While my dad was getting a new battery for our camper, the kids and I wandered over to the nearby lake.
Within seconds they found sticks and leaves and other small objects to throw into the lake. And I nearly had to drag them away when my dad was ready to go because they were having so much fun!
The pure joy they find in such small acts always amazes me. Even though it was hot. Even though we were in a strange place. They found something simple in the moment. Every day these two beautiful kids teach me more about appreciating simplicity and enjoying the small moments. They remind me to fully wonder about the world and find joy in it.
The best part about this is kids teach simplicity without even trying. Us adults, we strive for simplicity. We have to fight for it. But kids do it naturally. They aren’t wishing for a past that is gone nor are they dreaming for a future that is yet to come. They live in the moment. Their childlike wonder embraces simplicity and joy in the moment.
