Why You Need a Savings Tracker
I don’t know about you, but if I don’t have a plan for my money, I will just spend it in day-to-day spending. But at the beginning of each year, I like to sit down and think about the upcoming year and all my financial goals. This includes savings for vacation!
I look at the schedule for my husband and my kids and plan out our family trips. Typically we try to go somewhere during spring break and over the summer. Whether that is visiting family or going to the beach, it still requires resources to be set aside.

Another benefit of a tracker like this is it will help build a habit of saving. Each time you either transfer money from a checking account to a savings account or put cash in an envelope, you can color in one of the little pictures.
This cue and reward system builds a strong habit of saving. The visual picture gives you something to work towards and helps you make decisions that are in alignment with what will truly bring you joy or meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions about Saving for Vacation
How much should I save each month for vacation?
This really depends on how much you need for your vacation! I would look up the average prices of the vacation you want and start there. Then ask yourself how many months you have to save. Dividing the cost by the total number of months will give you the amount to save each month!
For our family of 6, we plan to spend anywhere from $2-$8K on vacations in anyone one year. Some years we’ve kept it super easy and planned camping trees within three hours of us. Other times we’ve rented a beach house with the grandparents and also planned to go skiing.
Vacations can be big or small but the most important thing is to do something YOU love, not what everyone else says you have to do.
Where should I keep my savings fund?
This answer is also variable.
Many people create a separate savings account just for vacations so that it is easier to track. Others use the envelope system or a High Yield Savings Account.
Others use a money market fund.
.Since vacations are normally taken within the next year, I would recommend keeping it somewhere you could access easily but that wouldn’t get swallowed up by everyday spending.
