Best Baby sleep sacks for winter Baby Tips

The Coziest Safe Baby Sleep Sacks For Winter

When we first brought our baby girl home, I tried to swaddle her in a muslin blanket instead of a sleep sack because we didn’t own one and I didn’t really see a reason to invest in one (re: Baby Essentials List). But, my tiny Houdini impersonator had a way of wriggling out of her swaddle every single night and would wake up and cry because she was cold and her blanket was gone.

After two months of getting up 5-7 times a night to readjust her blanket, I finally took the plunge and invested in a fleece sleep sack for her and it was a complete game changer!! The velcro was super handy for making sure that the blanket stayed in place, she couldn’t wriggle out of it anymore, and the most beautiful part about it: she started to sleep through the night.

Insert hallelujahs and praise hands from tired parents everywhere!

Today, I wanted to share the joy of the best baby sleep sacks with you too!

The Best White Noise Machine for Baby to Sleep…

Shhhhhhhh! Baby’s sleeping! According to Dr. Harvey Karp, author of this article, there are 5 key S’s to a goodnight of Zzzzzzzs’s. He states in the book (which is one of my recommended mommy books!), that to calm a fussy, tired baby you can try swaddling, side/stomach position, shushing, swinging, and sucking.

The side/stomach position is quite controversial due to the American Academy of Pediatrics stating there is an increased chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (also known as SIDS) when a baby is placed on their stomach to sleep.

But for the rest, I found my babies calmed down and slept soooo much longer when they were swaddled, sucking a pacifer, swinging, and/or if there was white noise.

Swaddling helps newborns sleep vastly better according to Dr. Harvey from the Happiest Baby on the Block. The swaddle mimics the womb and stops their arms from jerking when the startle reflex kicks in. (He also recommends “Shhhushhh-ing” sounds…read more here) The questions are, when is the best time to stop swaddling baby and how to get baby to sleep without a swaddle?

What do you do when your baby begins to roll around? What do you do when your baby is big enough to break out of the swaddle and you need to transition them to something else?

Questions first time parents might be asking is:

HOW do I transition my baby from the swaddle and at what age?

When do I stop swaddling my baby at night?

Well, as with most things in parenting this DEPENDS on your baby. Not every baby will be the same age when it’s time to stop swaddling. But there are a few factors you can look at to decide if it might be time for your baby.

If your baby suddenly begins waking up at night and is at least 4 months old, you are probably a little bit frustrated. You did “all the right things” and followed these quick and easy newborn sleep tips. Your sweet little one was sleeping 7 to 8 hours at a time. But all of a sudden, it seems like you have taken 2 steps back! Why does your baby keep waking up at night???

First off, you’re not alone. These are a few common reasons for why your baby keeps waking up at night. We’ve pretty much seen them all in this household.

It’s not that this is a checklist. But it kind of is? Going through this list will hopefully help you solve the mystery of night waking for babies over 4 months of age.

Crying at night that interrupts your sleep can be one of the most difficult parts of parenthood. Whether you are a working mom or stay at home mom, everyone needs a good night’s sleep to be the most productive!

Your baby is learning how to communicate, and all they know how to do is cry. It’s up to you to figure out what’s wrong so you can all go back to a full night of ZZZZZZzzzzzs.

Well, with our help, of course 🙂 Here we go!
