DIY Halloween Robot Costume for Kids

  • September 26, 2025September 26, 2025
  • by Jessica Whitney

Last year, my kids took Halloween into their own hands and created the most creative costumes yet—including a DIY Halloween Robot Costume for Kids and a creepy zombie gymnast. What made it so special was how they dreamed up the ideas, sketched out the details, and then helped bring their designs to life with us.

I love that they have embraced the DIY costumes because they are creative, unique, and save money. All that is invested is a little sweat equity and some fun times with dad! (He’s the creative genius in our homee)

Let me share a few photos from last year and hopefully help you help your kids come up with their own creative ideas!

Homemade Rubix Cube Costume Idea

  • September 8, 2025September 9, 2025
  • by Jessica Whitney

Every year when Halloween rolls around, I find myself scrambling for costume ideas. I’ll be honest—I’m not really the “creative” one in the family. My husband is the true mastermind behind our kids’ costumes, and this year he came up with something so clever, fun, and budget-friendly: a homemade Rubix Cube costume. Not only was it simple to make with just a box, some tape, and paint, but it turned into such a fun family memory watching him and the kids work together.

We actually ended up making two of them—one for each of our boys—and they were a huge hit!

The Invisible Load of Back-to-School—and How to Lighten It…

  • August 7, 2025September 8, 2025
  • by Jessica Whitney

Back-to-school season hits different, doesn’t it? It’s not just about grabbing a fresh box of crayons or new shoes. It’s the invisible load—the buzzing background noise of 20 open browser tabs in your brain.

You’re not alone in feeling this way!!

This year, that invisible load has felt particularly heavy as I’ve wrestled with decisions about my own kids’ activities. I find myself caught in the tension between wanting my children to have opportunities to grow and learn, and fearing that we’re pushing them toward burnout and an over-scheduled life. I have to actively tell myself there’s no reason to feel guilty, but the pressure is still there.

My oldest is on a select baseball team, and my daughter is in gymnastics for 16 hours a week. The commitment is real, and the worry is too. Am I preparing my son for high school and college, or am I robbing him of his childhood? Is my daughter’s physical and emotional well-being being stretched too thin?

As the fall schedule fills up, I also feel the guilt of not signing up my younger kids for activities, wondering if they’re missing out on key developmental opportunities.

This post touches on some of the invisible worries we as moms carry—and ways to share the load!

The Best Daily Kid-Friendly Family Devotional Ideas (Reviewed by…

  • August 5, 2025August 6, 2025
  • by Jessica Whitney

Picking from so many kid-friendly family devotional ideas has been a work in progress for us over the years. Finding a devotional that is age-appropriate, engaging, and stays true to teaching them about the love of Jesus has taken time—and a lot of trial and error.

This list features our tried-and-true favorite family devotional resources that we’ve used with our kids (currently ages 12, 10, 7, and 5). Some of these we’ve read aloud as a family, while others the kids read independently, followed by some sweet discussions with us.

What makes this post unique is that my 10-year-old daughter gave her thoughts on each one (you can read the transcript at the bottom)—what she liked, what stood out, and why she recommends it.

So if you’re hoping to invite your kids into a daily rhythm of worship and help them grow in faith, this is a must-read post.

AI is everywhere right now—and it’s growing like crazy. Some people love it. Some like it. Most are a little freaked out by the unknowns.

I get it.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about where AI is headed. But I also know this: I’ve already used it to uplevel my life. I’ve been telling everyone I know—especially moms—about my favorite ways to use AI and the specific prompts that make it actually useful.

The secret isn’t just using AI like it’s Google. The real magic happens when you learn to prompt it well and combine it with what you already know. That’s when things click.

In this post, I’m sharing how I’ve been using ChatGPT this week in my personal life as a mom of four. Most AI content out there is business-focused—but these are game changers in our day-to-day family life.

💡 Heads up: This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase—at no extra cost to you.
