9 Back to School Morning Routine Tips for Stress-Free…

  • July 22, 2025August 25, 2025
  • by Jessica Whitney

I remember the exact moment I knew something had to change in our mornings before school.

It was 6:17 AM on a weekday, and my toddler was screaming—about a banana. I had sliced it, and apparently, he wanted it whole. Meanwhile, my newborn was crying, I was trying to blend a protein shake, and I still had to pack lunches and get everyone out the door by 6:45. I ended up crying in the car on the way to work, wondering, How do other moms make this look so easy?

If your mornings feel like a blur of chaos, you’re not alone—and I promise there’s a better way.

In this post, we’ll walk through how to create a back to school morning routine that supports independence for your kids, fosters calm, and gives you room to connect before the day begins. Keep reading, and by the end, you’ll be able to design your own stress-free morning that actually works for your family—and your sanity.

These are my tried and true tips from a now, mom of 4 with kids aged 12 and under.

Let’s go!

As my kids have grown, I’ve learned the importance of integrating them into our family life all times of the day, but especially in the evening. Teaching them responsibility and giving them purpose has been essential, but I’ve also realized the need to avoid overwhelming them (and myself) with too many checklists.

One significant change to our routine has become a cornerstone in maintaining a calm household. I used to be unstructured, constantly playing catch-up, and overwhelmed by a messy house. Implementing this evening routine didn’t solve everything overnight, but it added structure without rigidity, helping me create a clean, decluttered home and the confidence to focus on what truly matters.

Between the kids being sick, an unexpected work trip for your husband, and the car breaking down, you feel like you can never get ahead. You’re constantly playing catch-up when you had determined this would be your year to get organized and stop feeling so chaotic.

I want to let you in on my little secret to help you stay motivated from day to day even when you’re exhausted and overwhelmed!
